The governor has approved on Saturday
The law of ‘Love Jihad’ has come into effect in Uttar Pradesh. The Governor on Saturday approved the ordinance (UP Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Ordinance 2020). The government of UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had announced during the assembly by-election that a law would be brought in the state regarding Love Jihad. The UP cabinet approved the “Unlawful Conversion Bill” on 24 November. The government says that the aim of this law is to protect women.
This law is going to come in many states
Earlier, the Madhya Pradesh government has prepared to bring a law on Love Jihad. Haryana, Karnataka and many other BJP-ruled states are also in the process of bringing a law on love jihad. Under this proposed law, cheating someone by hiding religion and marrying will carry a sentence of 10 years. It is believed that the UP government will bring a bill related to Love Jihad in the coming assembly session and pass it.
Forcible conversion or conversion to marriage is considered a crime
The Bill to Prevent Religious Conversion for Marriage provides that greed, lying or forcible conversion or conversion to marriage will be considered an offense. The conversion of a minor, woman belonging to a Scheduled Caste tribe will be severely punished. Action will be taken against the social organizations that organize mass conversions. Inter religious marriage with conversion will have to prove that he has not broken this law. A girl converted to a girl’s religion will not be considered a marriage.
