Farmers of Punjab, Haryana and West UP are agitating on the Delhi border in protest of the agricultural laws, in their absence, the women and daughters of the household have taken up the task of looking after the farm and the crop. These women are driving an example of women power, from shovels to tractors in the field.
We are talking about Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh. Jasveer Singh, a resident of Gesupur Basavat village of Daurala block, has also gone to the movement under the leadership of Bhakiyu, his sons Vishu Chaudhary and Raja Chaudhary along with their. He has 20 bighas of fields in the village and crops are also planted there. Jasvir and his two sons are looked after by the farm, so there is a fear of crop failure behind them. Seeing this, his wife Mithlesh and daughters Nishu Chaudhary and Mansi Chaudhary took over. Nishu is an MPED student while Mansi is in 12th. Both daughters are engaged in plowing the field with their mother.
While Nishu is driving a tractor, his mother Mithilesh and sister Mansi have chipped in the sugarcane field and irrigated the potato field. Nishu Chaudhary said, “His father and brothers as well as uncles and other people of the village are in Delhi for agitation against agricultural laws, in such a situation that the crop in the field behind them could have been spoiled, so they took over the field.
Like Nishu, daughters of other households in the village are weeding the crops. The male and female members of the graduation student Payal’s house have gone to participate in the movement. In such a situation, she first manages the housework and then takes care of the crop in the fields.
